Corten steel in Fondis stoves

Corten steel withstands high temperatures better than traditional steel

Fondis stoves are made of Corten steel and cast iron. The average temperature in the firebox of a stove is around 500 degrees C. At these temperatures the hot combustion gases attack and corrode ordinary steel. Corten steel covers itself with a protective layer on exposure to heat for 8 days. As you can see from the graphs below after Corten steel looses much less weight over time compared to traditional steel and also oxidises less.

You can see from the graph that Corten steel stands up to high temperatures much better than traditional steel.

Another clever innovation by Fondis stoves.
