Painting Dektite flashings and Dekstrip

Both Dektite® and Dekstrip® products can be successfully painted to match your roof colour and DEKS Industries Pty offer the following recommendations to ensure a good quality and long lasting finish.

PAINT ONLY AFTER INSTALLATION

It is strongly recommended that both Dektite® and Dekstrip® products are only painted after they have been deformed to follow the roof profile and fixed into place. The amounts of distortion required from the product means any paint applied prior to installation would become cracked and flake when stretched.

SURFACE PREPARATION

It is recommended that the product is installed and allowed to 'weather' for a period prior to painting. On returning to the product the surface should be washed using a soft-bristled scrubbing brush with a solution of a mild detergent & warm water. When the surface of the product is clean and free from any obvious contaminants prepare the surface then be prepared using a clean cloth and small amount of a mild solvent (e.g. white spirits). Excessive use of solvent may damage the EPDM surface - apply solvent to a cloth and wipe, do no apply directly to the product surface.

WHAT PAINT TO USE

DEKTITE® - DEKS Industries Pty tested and recommends using good quality 100% acrylic gloss paint. No primer is required, however the surface of the EPDM needs to be prepared prior to painting. Oil based paints are not suitable and will not adhere to the EPDM surface.

DEKSTRIP® - Dekstrip® requires an epoxy resin based primer as a basecoat prior to painting. Allow primer to dry following the manufacturer's instructions before painting as per the Dektite® instructions.

The recommendations given are provided for guidance only and offer no guarantee of performance. The finish achieved is dependant on the paint used and installation/preparation of the product over which DEKS Industries Pty have no control.
