The Aarrow Ecoburn stoves have this clever riddling mechanism that doubles up as a setting for burning wood or coal. Move it backwards and forwards and you riddle the ash down to the ashpan. When burning coal on any stove it is important to keep the grate and ashpan clear and free from ash or the grate is liable to get damaged. If you leave the grate on the coal burning setting primary air is allowed up through the fuel which is what coal needs for burning. Leave the grate on the other setting and the air has to come over the top of the fuel which is ideal for woodburning.
