Solar electric
Capturing the power of the sun and converting it into usable electricity is nothing new. I remember years ago being excited at having a solar powered calculator, but the technology has of course moved on a little since then. Photovoltaic panels can now be used to make a significant amounts of usable electricity. Solar panels now form part of the roof structure of some houses, and solar electric panels are of course available which can be retrofitted. Some installations make so much power that the excess can be sold back to the grid.
