Ones initial reaction to heating water using solar power in a country like the UK might be one of scepticism, but solar thermal is now being increasingly used across the country and with great results. Solar hot water is a perfect compliment for a wood stove with a boiler - use the stove in the winter to provide hot water and central heating when it is cold, and then have solar hot water in the summer when you do not need central heating and the stove is not lit.
