These Esbe VTA mixer valves are a very useful addition to your heating system if you are using an accumulator tank. Put simply a thermostatic mixer valve takes hot and cold water and then mixes them to the required temperature. You may well have a mixer valve on your shower. Mixer valves are very useful when it comes to accumulator tanks. One of the tricks to getting the most from your accumulator is to reduce the flow rate from it. The water in there may be at, say, 80ºC but you may only need, say, 55ºC for your radiator circuit. A simple mixer valve set at 55ºC will bring the flow temperature down, reducing the flow rate from the tank and also reducing the temperature of the water returning to the tank which is another good idea.
The Esbe VTA 313 is adjustable from 30-70ºC and so is perfect for radiator circuits - you'll probably want to set the flow temperature to somewhere between 50ºC and 65ºC - depending on how you use your system and the level of insulation in your house of course.
The Esbe VTA 323 is adjustable from 20-43ºC and so is ideal for underfloor circuits which usually have a much lower flow temperature. Underfloor systems have their own mixer manifolds but if these are quite a distance from your accumulator tank then it makes sense to use a mixer at the tank: no point having water sitting in the pipe that is hotter than it needs to be.
