Here we have solar enabled hot water accumulator tanks from Extraflame. The solar tanks are insulated with 100mm removable insulation which makes it easier to get these tanks through narrow openings. The diameter of the tanks is 990mm, reducing to around 790mm with the insulation off. Domestic hot water for washing and bathing is drawn via a coil in the top of the tank, and the water for heating is taken directly from the tank. The accumulator tank lets you store up heat for use later on when your stove is not running. This allows you to time and programme your heating to come when you want it.
Each accumulator tank can be fitted with up to two heat exchange coils. The coils are made from finned copper and have a surface area of 3.17 m². Commonly you would fit an upper coil to provide you with domestic hot water at mains pressure. Another coil can be fitted below this if, for example, you want to link a pressurised part of your heating system with an open vented part.
Extraflame accumulator tanks can be connected to pressurised or open vented systems.
The TPS tanks have a solar baffle approximately half way up the tank which reduces the mixing which can occur, especially either side of the summer when the solar contribution is at a lower temperature. This means you get usable hot water for longer. Below the baffle is a solar coil which runs from the bottom of the tank up to near the baffle.
The 1000lt tank has a solar coil area of 3m².
