This Class II heat meter meets the requirements of the MCS scheme - this means that you can use it on systems which qualify for the RHI grant scheme where it would be used to measure the total kWh of heat produced for which you would then a receive the appropriate grant payment.
A heat meter is composed of two parts; a flow sensor which will detect the flow rate of water passing through a pipe and then two temperature probes which detect the temperature of the warm flow pipe and the cooler return. In this way the meter can work out the temperature difference between the two pipes and combining that with the flow rate it now has enough information to work out the total energy produced.
This heat meter measures the flow rate ultrasonically meaning that there are no moving parts to get clogged up with detritus. Not only will the meter show the kWh produced it also scrolls through the total volume of water which has flowed through the meter, the temperature differential and a couple of other useful parameters.
By applying a magnetic field to the serial number on the heat meter more detailed parameters can be obtained which include just the last month's data.
This class II heat meter is easy to fit the flow meter and readout part has male 3/4" connections and the tee for the second temperature probe has 3/4" female connections.
You can incorporate this class two heat meter to pellet boiler systems or to measure the heat produced by solar thermal arrays. When installed to solar thermal systems the flow meter and readout part of the heat meter is installed on the return from the solar coil in your water tank. In this way the meter will not overheat and you get a true reading of useful heat produced. Most solar controllers include a heat meter but this measures the heat produced at the panel, not the actual heat you will be able to make use of which is stored in your tank as there are significant heat losses at the panel and in the pipework from the panel to the tank.
The price of the Class 2 MCS Heat Meter includes delivery within England, and most of Wales - click the map for more details.
