Masonry wood stoves
Masonry stoves use a large thermal mass to soak up the heat from the fire. This heat is then gently released to the room over a long period. Ceramic stoves were once very common across Europe with some very ornate stove designs. These were often masonry stoves finished in ceramic tiles.

Heta masonry stovesThese Heta masonry stoves use sandstone to absorb the heat from the fire. Once the masonry stove is warm the stone releases the heat to the room, even after the fire has gone out, producing a gentler, more even heat. Click on the picture or here for more details |
Ceramic wood stovesCeramic stoves are usually finished on the outside in ceramic tiles and can look very beautiful. Often these ceramic tiles are coloured and may be ornately patterned. Many ceramic stoves are masonry stoves with tiles on the outside, but there are also more contemporary versions which have a metal body with a ceramic outer.
