Normatherm stoves give a very low proportion of the heat to the room which is one reason why they lend themselves very well to passive and other low energy houses. The Normatherm NK15 and NK20 stoves be 100% room sealed which means that all the air for combustion is supplied via an external air duct. This is especially important in a Passivhaus as the level of air tightness in these buildings is very high to reduce heat losses and allow the Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation (MHRV) system to work properly. This is important even if the house is not a passive house as air tightness is increasingly important even under our current building regulations and is being tightened up year on year.
Usually these efficient inset boiler stoves are woodburning only but Normatherm inset boiler stoves are multifuel which is a pleasant surprise and means that if you need to that you can burn smokeless fuels on them as well as wood.
Another clever addition is an optional particle filter - Normatherm stoves have low particulate emission levels in the first place but with the addition of the filter this is further reduced. Essentially the particle filter is a heated unit which supplies fresh air into the flueway to help to further combust and break down remaining particles and gases.
With Normatherm you have the choice of flat, prism (three-sided) or curved doors and the door can either hinge outwards or it can slide up and into the wall. There are various frame and ashpan options as well as a choice of door handles.
A really useful thing to bear in mind is that the NK30 Normatherm boiler stove can be made for you as a double sided version or as corner model with a right-angled bend in the glass. Please do remember that a double sided stove will give a little extra heat out to the room.
There is also the a freestanding stove suited to passive houses which shares the same characteristics as the NK 15 but is built into a choice of outer stove bodies.
Our heating engineers would be glad to help you with a heat load calculation for the project and can them suggest a Normatherm inset boiler stove which meets your needs as well as the suitable accumulator tank. For passive and low energy houses it is very likely to be a choice between the NK15 and NK20, for other houses the larger models will be an option if the heat demand is sufficient. We stock Akvaterm Solar Plus tanks as standard and these are also available as AkvaGeo tanks if you are making use of a heat pump and want to get the most out of it, and we also stock all the extra parts which you will need such as load units, direct air ventilation kits and so forth.
| Normatherm NK 15 Inset Boiler StoveThe Normatherm NK 15 is the classic Passivhaus stove with a heat output that copes very well with a minimal demand for space heating and the lion's share going to domestic hot water. The NK 15 will give out up to 14.4kW to water and yet only 1.2kW to the room. Visit our Normatherm NK 15 Inset Boiler Stove page, or click on the picture for more details |
| Normatherm NK 20 inset boiler stoveThe Normatherm NK 20 boiler stove is the larger cousin to the KKH 15. The NK 20 will give out up to 17.3 kW to water and 1.9kW to the room making it suited to well passive and other insulated houses where the demand for domestic hot water is that little bit higher. | Normatherm NK 15 Freestanding Boiler StoveNormatherm NK 15 freestanding boiler stoves are suitable for use in passive and low energy houses. Normatherm NK 15 boiler stoves can be 100% room sealed, are thermostatically controlled and give very little heat to the room.
