Gas Stoves

For many of us living in city areas a gas stove is what suits our lifestyle. There are a very wide range of gas stoves to suit all types of interior.  When researching for a gas stove for your home here are some basics to help you in your choice:

There are three main groups of gas fire, those that use a conventional flue, those that have a balanced flue and there are now flueless gas stoves which, as their name implies, do not require a flue at all.

Conventional gas fires, sometimes referred to as living flame, open or glass-fronted gas fires, must always be connected to a chimney.  This needs to be a Class 1 chimney, either constructed of masonry or twin-wall steel, this is the same type of chimney that is required for all solid fuel stoves and fireplaces.   For the traditional look you might choose a cast iron gas stove, these tend to imitate their solid fuel brothers.  For a more contemporary look you might choose a freestanding steel stove or possibly a flat cassette type.

Balanced flue gas fires are room-sealed, glass-fronted appliances which are particularly popular in newbuild houses as the combustion air is not drawn from the room.   They use a concentric flue, which means that there is a single pipe that serves both the combustion air and the waste gases. Depending upon the model, the twin-walled concentric pipe may exit horizontally through an external wall or vertically through the roof. Balanced flue stoves tend to have high efficiency ratings and come in a very wide range of sizes and shapes.  There are letterbox, portrait and landscape stoves,  double-sided, three-sided corner and wall-hung models, as well as freestanding contemporary gas stoves.

Flueless gas stoves do not require a flue or chimney, but they do require an air vent in the room, unlike balanced flue stoves. They are fitted with a catalytic converter which burns off the gas emissions, which means that a flue is not required. They have very low emissions and come in a range of both traditional and contemporary styles.

As well as supplying most makes of solid fuel stove, we can also supply their gas counterparts, such as Esse Gas, Aarrow Gas, Riva Gas, Stockton Gas, Hunter Gas,  Yeoman Gas, Gazco, Tiger Gas, Firebelly Gas, Firefox Gas and Contemporary Gas models.
