Stovesonline sustainability
By supplying wood burning stoves, wood pellet boilers, thermal stores and other renewable heating kit throughout the UK we are encouraging the use of a low CO2 fuel. We feel that this is an important step towards lowering carbon emissions. Heating with wood is not the whole answer to this challenge, and it's not going to be the most common solution. Yet it is a solution which is tried and tested, and which can run an existing heating system with radiators without issue.
Across our website we try to encourage you to burn wood as opposed to coal or peat, with plenty of information available to allow easy comparison of CO2 emissions from wood, coal, and other fuels. If you're upgrading from an open fire or fireplace to a stove then that raises efficiency, from something like 0-20%, to more like 70-85% depending on the stove. This will also vastly reduce particulate emissions.
As a company we can still do more and realise that this is an ongoing effort to make our business more sustainable. Please read about various ways in which we have been trying to make a difference below.
Carbon Emissions Audit
We audit our operational carbon emissions every year - this page explains what the entails and goes into detail on what the carbon audit is.
Our packaging
Read about the review of our packaging. Other businesses can download a document to take advantage of what we learnt.
Kids for Kids project - helping people in remote Darfur
We support Kids for Kids, a charity helping people in villages in Sudan.
Himalayan stove project
Distributing efficient stoves throughout the Himalayas to reduce deforestation and to improve health.
The Mangrove Action Project
We support the Mangrove Action Project, a charity helping to preserve mangroves worldwide.
Justa stove project - saving carbon, improving lives in Guatemala and El Salvador
We subsidise cooking stoves for people in Guatemala and El Salvador cutting CO2 emissions and improving lives.
Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves
Promoting the worldwide adoption of clean cook stoves to improve health and reduce deforestation.
Darfur stove, efficient stoves in sudan
We subsidised cooking stoves for displaced persons in Darfur.
New Laos stove project - saving CO2 in Cambodia
We subsidised efficient charcoal stoves in Cambodia cutting CO2 emissions and improving lives.
Transport emissions
We go towards offsetting our transport emissions.
Documentation and paperwork
We now send all our quotes and invoices electronically to reduce waste - it's faster and better too!
Global Warming
Global warming - it's getting hot in here
Climate change is happening now - we need to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases we produce.
CO2 fuel emissions
Do not believe the hype - wood is a low carbon fuel source, not a carbon neutral one. It is still very good.
