Boiler stoves for central heating
A boiler stove has part or the whole of its fire chamber made from a boiler. This boiler was traditionally placed at the back of the stove, hence the term 'back boiler'. Nowadays it is quite common that the whole body of the stove is the boiler - which means more heat goes to the water and less to the room. So one thing to pay attention to is how much heat the boiler stove gives to the room. You do not want to overheat the room, and if it is too little then an easy solution is to also have a radiator in the same room as the boiler stove.
If you only want a wood boiler stove with a back boiler to contribute to your system then you probably do not need a full heat load calc. Whatever heat that your stove adds in just means that your conventional oil or gas boiler will run for less time. You can get help to work out how best to link your boiler stove to your heating system. Sometimes this can be as easy as plumbing the boiler in as if it was a radiator.
An even more modern approach to wood central heating is to use a wood pellet boiler. These automatically switch on and off giving you the chance to put your feet up. We supply these across the UK and Ireland through our Firepower network of dealers and engineers. You can book in a site visit and they provide installation.
New heating systems which combine a wood boiler stove, wood pellet boiler, solar thermal, solar pv, heat pump, MVHR are normal for us to work with. We can help your installer design the system and supply the wood heating and thermal store side of things, and liaise with the other specialist suppliers to make sure it all goes to plan. Each system is different and needs to be tailored to your needs. We can specify and supply everything needed for your system from the boiler stove, specialised pumps and controls to thermal stores (300lt-20,000lt). See our wood central heating page for more info.
